3D Technologies are changing our lives. Here the signals

Have you ever heard of Rapid Prototyping or Additive Manufacturing? I’m sure you did, you maybe didn’t even know  it. All these terms are synonyms of a word that lately is on everyone’s lips: 3D Printing.

Nowdays with 3D Printing it’s possible to realize a lot of project, unthinkable ones! Think at your closet stuffed with all types of clothing you like, what if your car could change its dress every day as well? It will soon become addictive, but you can already do it!

You need to travel for work but you like to move around light? Today you can start your trip carrying a simple USB with upload a mathematical model of the product you want to show your next customer and once arrived to destination it would be sufficient to just 3D Print it.

You don’t have enough yet?

Another interesting basis for comparison to take as reference is Kickstarter site. To date, the number of project aiming to improve the usability and application connected to 3D printing has been 850. A great number that gives us an important information: a lot of young people approach this new world of opportunity with proactivity and desire to innovate, isn’t this already the success key factor?

Think about how many professionals can exploit the innovative features and the technologies related to the 3D printing to realize their products, test it, collect strategic data and reviews from the market and only then decide if to start a real production of the approved item or not.

How did we end to this point?

Progressive lowering of the entry barrier for this sector in continuous innovation took to a cost reduction both of domestic and professional 3D printing machines. Reduction in 3D modelling software’s price plays its part too, today it’s possible to find several programs and some of them, in their basic version, have a much more reasonable/approachable price allowing students and young professionals to become acquainted with these new technologies.

In Italy, in fact, there are many ambitious & precious projects like the one of Elena Dall’Antonia. Thanks to additive manufacturing she was able to realize a unique open source tool called “MANIpolare per comunicare ( “HAND(handling) to communicate” referring to the sign language) to help deaf-mute children to better interact and learn the sign language.

And this is not the only example.

Medical sector is coming closer and closer to the 3D printing world. Today it is possible to realize realistic human organ, prosthesis and organic fabrics. In this field Skorpion Engineering come to the point of making a difference and help the researchers to fulfill their projects. Here it’s how Skorpion Engineering is able to realize a complete heart model in less than 48 hours!

And you? Which one is your opinion about the future of 3D printing?
